Buskers will take over Lublin! Carnaval Sztukmistrzów’s busker contest

Vote for your favourite act in Carnaval Sztukmistrzów’s Busker Contest 2022! Starting from next Thursday, 28 July for four days, seven buskers who entered this year’s Carnaval Sztukmistrzów’s busker contest will face off against one another, bringing out the best gags, tricks and personal charm.

Who is a busker? A busker is a self-sufficient street performer who uses the streets as a stage to entertain onlookers and make a living. Their hat, an essential attribute, is their fee. They carry everything in suitcases, which allows them to quickly charm audiences, set up mini-stages, and collect fees into the hat.

We have invited artists from all corners of the world, resulting in a very diverse geographic representation. Among the artists performing in Lublin we will see the audience’s favourite from 2018, an illusionist from the Philippines called Magic Mark. We will also see a one-man orchestra from Spain, Mauro Wolynski in the performance “The Great Wolynski,” and a female duo of hula-hooping clowns, Menayeri Circo from Argentina, who will remind us that friendship and teamwork are the real measure of success.

But that’s not all. The female side of the contest will be further enriched by Cami Basterra from Argentina, who will transform items from her coffee stall into circus props. A hilarious clown from Portugal, Dani, in his show “Bailarina” will perform routines with volunteers. Everyone will be able to take part in the show and see the street from the perspective of the artist. “Bailarina” is sure to charm audiences regardless of their age.

Flash Gonzalez is a charismatic, refined and spontaneous performer with a background in physical theatre, dance and acrobatics. Just like every artist of this year’s Carnaval , he will move from location to location, but generally, you will be able to find him in the square behind the Crown Tribunal. This honest tramp will invite us into his intimate, enchanted world.

Polish artists will also make an appearance. Krzysztof Kostera will transport us to the spectacular and dramatic world of circus skills in a performance entitled “Dangerous objects”. The show’s intensity will increase in direct proportion to the level of difficulty of the skills he presents.

Throughout the entire event, buskers will play twice daily; we may see each of them up to eight times total! The only shows with fewer performances are “Bailarina,” which will be performed only four times, and Krzysztof Kostera, who will perform five times. The artists will perform in different locations at various times of day – you may find them in Litewski Square (3 stages: Krąpiec Square, square by the sign I love Lublin and Kapucyńska street by the PEDET store) and in the Old Town (po Farze Square, square behind the Tribunal). The programme has been scheduled to make it possible for everyone to see all the contest shows. But be on the lookout because we have added several new locations to the Carnaval map.
