Only a few days remain until this year’s edition of the Carnaval Sztukmistrzów (July 23-26, Lublin) begins. The rich programme includes, among other things, circus and illusion stages that will be located in the Festival Club at the Perła Brewery, Bernardyńska 15. Visitors can look forward to open-air performances combining acrobatics, theatre, dance, illusion and humour.
ALE Circus Dance Company | “Happy Hour” (POL)
The main circus attraction on Friday and Saturday will be “Happy Hour” by the Polish group ALE Circus Dance Company. The company will invite audiences into a restaurant where everyday objects take on entirely new purposes. As soon as the characters gather around the table, their meeting unexpectedly transforms into a lively, high-energy game. The tabletop becomes a stage for spectacular juggling, while the chairs turn into acrobatic props. The ALE Circus team consists of professional circus artists, so audiences can expect circus skills of the highest calibre.

Sébastien Wojdan / Galapiat Cirque | “Désordre” (FRA)
Sébastien Wojdan of Galapiat Cirque, who will perform on the stage of the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures on Thursday and Friday, will also appear on the festival’s final day with an outdoor project. “Désordre” is an energetic blend of contemporary circus, theatre and performance art. Its creator and performer invites audiences to take part in an extraordinary ritual of encounter, where chaos becomes a source of beauty, humour and emotion. The show is a retrospective of the artist’s creative journey to date, filled with acrobatics, juggling, balancing, fire, dance, music and surprising object manipulation. It balances between risk and poetry, strength and fragility, laughter and reflection, constantly pushing the boundaries of circus technique and imagination.

DomiCirco | “Out of the Law” (POL)
The Festival Club will also welcome Henryk Zbir, a charismatic magician who, faced with the harsh realities of life as a circus performer, decides to stray from the legal path. He is the protagonist of “Out of the Law” by DomiCirco, which audiences will be able to enjoy throughout all four days of the festival. Using his illusionist skills, he makes a living through clever tricks, crafty schemes and misleading his audience – all in the name of good fun. Get ready for an interactive performance where illusion meets comedy and an elegant “con” becomes an art form.

Carnaval Sztukmistrzów is the largest festival in Poland showcasing contemporary circus arts. For years the event has attracted crowds of residents and tourists to the city. They are drawn not only by world-class circus performances, but also by the magical atmosphere of the festival. The program includes clowning, acrobatics, juggling, and illusion shows presented as engaging circus performances, as well as attractions for children and concerts. It is the most performatively diverse festival in the country. In addition, the Carnaval is accompanied by the Urban Highline Festival—the oldest and largest highline festival in the world held in an urban space. Most of the festival program is free of charge and takes place in streets, squares, and public spaces. Some events are ticketed and can be seen in theatres and performance halls.
